Today I want to mention a fantastic experience I had recently.
It’s important to take a break every now and again, and especially to get some excercise, this achieved both goals at the same time, it was a trip down the Ardeche in France in a kayak!
The Ardeche river in the South of France in the Massif Central is one of the most picturesque and awe inspiring natural waterscapes in the whole of Europe and is also almost certainly the best river to canoe down in France, if not one of the best in the whole of Europe and the continent.
The main appeal to this beautiful region of France is the natural surroundings, the fast flowing, warm clear water, which traverses a range of traditional French villages and towns (that offer traditional French food and wines and beverages), the amazing limestone cliffs that extend over 300 meters high through the gorge, and the wildlife and wild animals that live in the region.
In the summertime when the sun beats down and you have the usual blistering heat, blue skies, sunshine, and French culture surrounding you; it really is delight and an experience that you forget easily.
In fact many people fall in love with this region and come back again and again and again over a great many years.
In the “Gorges de l’Ardeche” you have a stretch of different gorges covering almost thirty Kilometres of river in a wonderfully French canyon combining a breath-taking canoeing experience over 25+ rapids, with a nature reserve bordered by magnificent sheer walls of limestone cliffs expanding over and around you.
There are many holiday companies that can provide you with this holiday of a lifetime, including one called the Outdoor Experience who have a number of options available so that you can make this the focus of your break, or join them for a part of your overall vacation, to give your break a special ingredient that you aren’t likely to find elsewhere.
The Ardeche canoeing trips are tailored for everyone, whether you are an experienced paddler or not, whether you are super fit or more of an armchair football fan, and whether you are young are old, the only objective is that everyone enjoys their time equally, and so everything is set up and catered to make sure that everyone is happy.
In the hot weather of the spring and summer all you’ll need is swimwear or shorts and t-shirt, in the colder month’s jumpers may be more appropriate, but you will be advised of course before you travel as to the suitable attire for this trip of a lifetime.
Experienced canoers and kayakers are there all of the time with you, so if you’ve never been in a canoe or kayak before it doesn’t matter, everything is thought of and taken care of for you.
I highly recommend that you take a break from work and get regular exercise, it really does help to clear and focus your mind, and to keep you fit and healthy too, and I can’t imagine a better way to do it than spending time in the great outdoors, in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, with great food, drink, company, and having a whale of a time as well!
Go kayaking on the Ardeche in France – it’s great!
